Screened-In Patio for Cats in Portland, Oregon💛🐾
Transforming a patio into a shared space for both humans and cats, is one of our favorite kind of projects. There’s nothing better than creating a big outdoor area where families can spend time with their cats in a safe and beautiful way.
This screened-in patio to catio in Portland, Oregon began as a partially covered patio that our client dreamed of turning into a safe, secure, and cozy retreat for her two cats, Fancy and Squeaky 🐈⬛🐈⬛.
We extended the patio, added a clear polycarbonate roof, and enclosed the space with pet-resistant screening. This special screen not only keeps pesky bugs out but also provides privacy, appearing dark from the outside while remaining nearly invisible from the inside.
The structure itself was built from cedar and finished in a light pine stain from Timber Pro UV, a product we love and recommend for being low-VOCs and pet-safe, while also performing beautifully in the Pacific Northwest climate.
This Portland screened-in catio has truly become a shared space where cats and humans can enjoy the outdoors together. Fancy and Squeaky spend their days climbing, napping, and exploring, while their family enjoys peace of mind knowing their beloved cats are safe. For us at The Catio Company, that’s what makes every project worth it.
One of our favorite parts of this project was seeing how our clients personalized their new screened-in patio. They furnished it with cozy seating and cushions that matched the colors of the catio.
Inside, the catio became a complete kitty playground 😺. Fancy and Squeaky now enjoy a catio packed with our custom handmade accesories, such as perches and ramps, a step ladder for easy access, scratching steps, and a floor-to-ceiling scratching post. We also added a hammock for lounging, a suspension bridge for adventure, a bubble dome bed, and a cozy hiding box for those quiet moments every cat loves.
To make life easier for their humans, we included an outdoor litter box area that keeps the mess (and the odors) outside of the home.
Many things made this Portland screened-in catio special, but what stood out the most to us was the kindness of our clients. They have the biggest hearts and intentionally choose to adopt black cats only, knowing that these wonderful companions are often overlooked because of old superstitions. Sadly, black cats are usually the last to be adopted and the first to face euthanasia in shelters.
Being able to work with a family that gives these cats the love and second chance they deserve is incredibly rewarding. It was an honor for The Catio Company to create a safe and beautiful outdoor retreat for Fancy and Squeaky, where they can now live their best lives in comfort and security.
