Large Screened-In Catio in Beaverton, Oregon. Designed and Built by The Catio Company

This large screened-in patio catio in Beaverton, Oregon was designed and built for a returning client, making this project especially meaningful for our team.

We were originally brought in to create a custom catio for this family, and being trusted again to design a second outdoor cat enclosure for Logan, Shelby, Mochi, and Fry was an incredible honor.

The patio already featured an existing pet door, which we incorporated into the design to create seamless indoor-outdoor access while maintaining a fully secure environment.

Built for four cats and their daily enrichment needs, this catio was designed to feel like a natural extension of the home while providing a safe, functional, and beautiful outdoor living space.

Materials:

This screened-in catio was constructed using durable, weather-resistant materials built for long-term outdoor use in the Pacific Northwest climate.

This material combination ensures a secure outdoor cat enclosure that balances safety, airflow, visibility, and durability.

Accessories and enrichment features:

This patio features one of our favorite accessory layouts to date, designed to balance open human space with a fully integrated vertical playground for the cats.

We used a combination of black carpet and textured knobby gray carpet, all exterior-grade and weather-resistant.

Enrichment features include:

  • Floor-to-ceiling scratching post

  • Smaller scratcher connecting to perches

  • Scratching steps / pegs

  • Multiple hiding boxes with bubble domes

  • Elevated perches for lookout spots

  • Bubble dome bed

  • Custom box and suspended bridge system

  • Step ladder down to ground level

The left side of the patio was intentionally left more open to accommodate outdoor furniture and a barbecue area.

We also designed and built a custom outdoor litter box cabinet for this space.

What truly sets this patio apart is the relationship behind it.

Working with returning clients is always incredibly meaningful to us, and being trusted for a second time to design a space for their cats made this project especially rewarding. That ongoing connection allows us to build with deeper intention and understanding of how both the cats and their humans live in the space.

Seeing Logan, Shelby, Mochi, and Fry explore the catio for the first time, climbing, jumping, peeking out of bubble domes, and quickly claiming their favorite perches, was one of those moments that reminds us why we love building catios.

WE LOVE THE CATIO COMPANY! This is the second time River's and Daniela have worked on a catio project for us. The first time was at our previous house where they made a custom built catio that went below our big windows so it wouldn't block any sunlight coming into the house. And this is our most recent project at our new place. The quality's top notch, and you can tell that every detail was well thought out with safety being their first priority. We went with both pet screen and mesh, though you really can't tell there's a screen when you're inside the catio. I don't know how that works - magic, it seems. But it's really nice to have double protection without losing a ton of visibility of our beautiful yard. (I want to note that on one side of the catio we don't have a pet screen because we plan on putting a grill there.)

They were also able to block access to the roof with the same method of pet screen and mesh, and that is enough to keep two of our "escape artists" from getting out that way, lol.

Our four cats absolutely love the extra space the catio gives them, and it's been such a joy watching our cats run around the shelves, and chasing each other up the giant scratcher pole. Not only that, my husband and I love using the space out there with them. We've been having propane fire pits out there almost every weekend now. You honestly can't go wrong with The Catio Company, and we absolutely will work with them again in the future.
