Breezeway to Catio for Lilly and Pheebs in Vancouver, Washington. Custom built and designed by The Catio Company 🤍

This unique catio design transforms a breezeway into a safe and engaging patio space, perfectly suited for two cats with different needs and temperaments. Lilly, who enjoys being both indoors and outdoors, and Pheebs, who prefers her own company, now have separate spaces within the catio to explore and relax.

The catio features four custom pet doors installed on each entrance, allowing the cats to move freely while maintaining their territories. An additional cat run area is also included to provide even more space for exploration and to ensure peaceful cohabitation. This thoughtful design helps manage the dynamics between these two cats, giving them the freedom and security they deserve.

This breezeway-to-catio conversion was built out of cedar and painted to match the home, blending naturally into the existing structure.

For durability and safety, we used 2” x 2” heavy-duty mesh throughout. The design includes two handmade custom human doors, plus several pet doors to fit the family’s unique needs.

Lily, who is still allowed outdoor access, uses the catio doors to move freely between the outdoors, the catio, and the house, her owners can lock or unlock them as needed. Pheebs, on the other hand, enjoys the catio and kitty room but stays safely indoors.

To accommodate both cats, who have very different personalities and sometimes struggle with territorial behavior, the space was designed with multiple zones: the kitty room, the breezeway catio, and an extra cat run area.

💡 Did you know? Some cats, especially in multi-cat households, can become territorial over resources like space, perches, or litter areas. Creating separate zones and vertical climbing options, like we did here, helps reduce stress and gives each cat the freedom to explore without conflict.

The design features perches and ramps for climbing, a step ladder for safe access, and the tallest scratching post we’ve ever built, an impressive 11-foot floor-to-ceiling scratcher that also includes a couple of built-in perches, allowing the cats to climb and use it like a cat tree, giving the cats endless vertical space to explore, scratch, and lounge.

We truly enjoyed enclosing this breezeway and transforming it into a custom catio, and it makes us so happy to see Lily, Pheebs, and their lovely family enjoying the new space. It brings us endless joy to hear from our happy clients and to know their cats are safe and thriving outdoors. 🐾

Rivers and Daniela built us the most beautiful catio, enclosing an existing breezeway. It is so well done, it looks like a seamless part of our home. I would happily recommend them to anyone thinking about a catio. Rivers was open to our ideas and even added onto the plans mid job. Our kitties are so happy and so am I, as it's fun to look at and made our home more functional. Rivers took his time with this one and it's obvious he thought of everything to ensure it's safety, functionality and aesthetic.
