The design also includes a large deck with a spacious catio that serves as both a relaxing retreat for Joe and a shared outdoor space for the family to enjoy together.
This catio was built with durable cedar lumber, finished in a natural cedar stain to complement the home. The enclosure features heavy-duty 2x2 black wire mesh for strength and safety, along with a shaded polycarbonate roof that provides year-round protection from rain and sun. The smaller connected catio includes pet turf flooring and a river rock base, creating easy-to-clean, paw-friendly surfaces designed to last in the Pacific Northwest climate.
This catio keeps things simple yet functional with perches, ramps, a bubble-dome bed, and a tall scratching post. A streamlined setup like this still provides climbing, lounging, and scratching opportunities to keep cats engaged and active.
What Makes This Catio Special:
What makes this Gresham catio project truly unforgettable is not just the design, but the story that came with it. While we were demoing the old deck to prepare for the build, we noticed a feral cat quietly coming and going. Something told us to look closer, and when we carefully pulled up one of the planks, we discovered five tiny kittens tucked safely beneath the deck, eyes still closed, ears folded. It was a moment we’ll never forget.
We worked with a local TNR program to safely trap and spay the mom before returning her to the area, and our client helped by giving her warm shelter nearby.
The kittens each found loving homes, some with friends and family, and two (Misty and Spooky) became part of our own family. This project gave us so much more than a beautiful build, it gave us new family members and a story that connects us forever to this project.
As for the catio itself, it was designed specifically for Joe, a very active Bengal. The long cat run wraps around the house and connects to a second catio, giving him multiple routes to explore and plenty of fresh-air enrichment. The large deck catio is a shared space where Joe can relax and play while his family enjoys the outdoors alongside him.
This project will always hold a special place in our hearts. It’s the perfect example of how our work is about more than just building outdoor cat enclosures, it’s about creating safe, enriching spaces for cats while also building meaningful connections with the families we serve.
