Custom 8'x13' cedar Catio in Hillsboro, OR.
This 8×13 custom cedar catio was thoughtfully designed for two cats and built on an existing deck in Hillsboro, Oregon.
The cats access the catio directly from the home through a window pet door insert, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection that allows them to safely enjoy fresh air, sunshine, and daily enrichment.
Designed to blend naturally with the home, this catio provides a secure outdoor space while making efficient use of the existing deck footprint.
Materials & Construction
Cedar lumber framing
Finished with a pet-safe stain
1” x 1” welded wire mesh for safety and durability
Trim installed over all mesh edges for a clean, finished look
Shaded polycarbonate roofing for weather protection and natural light
Human-size access door for easy maintenance and emergencies
Every detail was built to withstand the elements while remaining safe and comfortable for daily use.

This catio is fully equipped with custom-built enrichment features, including:
Multiple perches and steps
Several hiding boxes with bubble domes
A floor-to-ceiling scratching post
A hammock-to-box-to-bridge system for climbing and play
All ropes, carpets, and materials are exterior-grade, designed to hold up outdoors while encouraging natural behaviors like climbing, scratching, resting, and exploring.

This project was especially rewarding to build. Watching the cats confidently explore their new space for the first time, and seeing the excitement from their humans, is what makes projects like this so meaningful to us. The clients also added personal touches, making the catio feel truly like an extension of their home.

The finished product is exactly what we envisioned, and our two cats have taken to it immediately. We're already seeing positive changes! Our older cat, who tends to be less active, is using the space regularly and appears to be slimming down from the extra exercise and stimulation. Our younger cat, who has a lot of energy, is getting plenty of stimulation from all the accessories the team included, and the safe outdoor space to watch wildlife.
